2023 Athlon Sports Preseason Conference USA All-Conference teams

With less than 100 days remaining before the start of the 2023 season, Liberty’s football players are already starting to dawn attention from Conference USA.

Liberty had 14 players named to the 2023 Athlon Sports Preseason Conference USA All-Conference teams, which was recently released by Athlon Sports as part of its FBS preseason coverage.

The Flames had one first-team selection (OL X’Zauvea Gadlin), four second-team honorees (RB Quinton Cooley, WR Noah Frith, OL Brendan Schlitter, DL Kendy Charles), four third-team selections (TE Jacob Jenkins, LB Aakil Washington, CB Kobe Singleton, S Quinton Reese) and five fourth-team honorees (WR Reese Smith, WR CJ Daniels, OL Jordan White, DL Jay Hardy, S Brandon Bishop).

Following five years as an FBS Independent, Liberty will venture into its first FBS conference in 2023 when it joins Conference USA.

The Flames are one of four new teams joining Conference USA in 2023. Liberty will join fellow CUSA newcomers Jacksonville State, New Mexico State and Sam Houston.

The four new members will join five existing teams to make up the nine-team conference in 2023: FIU, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, UTEP and Western Kentucky.

The Flames will play their first-ever Conference USA game on Saturday, September 9 when they host fellow newcomer New Mexico State at Williams Stadium during Hall of Fame/Family Weekend.

The eight-game Conference USA schedule will put the Flames in a position to challenge for their first conference title in football since the 2016 season.

Conference USA’s 19th annual Championship Game, pitting the top-two finishers during conference play, will be played on Friday, December 1 during championship week.

Last November, C-USA membership approved a linear television-friendly scheduling format for football that sees all October league matchups played on midweek evenings.

The broadcast partners will share C-USA’s October weeknight football games on linear television across CBS Sports Network, ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. Click here for more information about Liberty’s 2023 broadcast schedule.
