Liberty Flames Head Baseball Coach Scott Jackson has announced the addition of Tyler Robinson as an assistant coach. Robinson will serve as the Flames’ pitching coach and assist in all aspects of the Liberty baseball program.

Robinson joins the Liberty baseball staff after nine seasons as a member of the Campbell coaching staff. The Durham, N.C., native started on the Camels’ staff in 2014 and became the team’s pitching coach in 2019.

The Camels made four NCAA Regional appearances with Robinson as pitching coach and five total during his time with the team. Campbell has appeared in an NCAA Regional in each of the past five years. In addition, the Camels won the Big South regular season in each of his four seasons and three Big South Tournament titles during his tenure as pitching coach.

Campbell pitchers led the Big South Conference in ERA, strikeouts and opponent batting average in three of his four seasons as pitching coach (2019, 20222 and 2023) and were in the top three in the conference every year of his tenure. In addition, during his time as pitching coach, Robinson saw 14 pitchers named to all-conference teams (eight – 1^st team, six – 2^nd team), three named Big South Pitcher of the Year and two selected Big South Freshman of the Year. He also saw right-hander Thomas Harrington named an All-American in 2022 and go on to be drafted in the first round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

This past season, Campbell posted 46 wins, the second most in program history, and appeared in its fifth straight NCAA Regional. The Camel pitching staff set a program record for opponent batting average (.231) and had the second-most strikeouts in school history with 265, one less than in 2022. Led by junior Cade Kuehler and freshman Jackson Roberts, Campbell landed five pitchers on the all-conference teams including three first-team members. In addition, Roberts was selected as the Big South Freshman of the Year.

The Camels’ pitching staff posted one of the best campaigns in school history as Campbell posted 41 wins and had four pitchers earn all-conference recognition in 2022. Led by the duo of Harrington and Kuehler, the Camels set the program record for strikeouts in a season with 556. Harrington and Kuehler each struck out 111 on the season to set new program marks.

Harrington was named a first-team All-American and became the first Campbell pitcher to be selected in the first round in school history in 2022. The Big South Pitcher of the Year and Golden Spikes semifinalist posted a 12-2 record with a 2.53 ERA. He was the only pitcher in the nation to win 12 games.

In 2021, four pitchers under Robinson’s guidance were named to the Big South All-Conference team and Harrington picked up the conference’s Freshman of the Year award.

Meanwhile, in 2019, his first season as Campbell’s pitching coach, right-hander Michael Horrell was voted the Big South Pitcher of the Year and left-hander Ryan Chasse was named the Freshman of the Year.

Robinson also served as the director of baseball operations and volunteer assistant during his time at Campbell and before that, was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Brunswick Community College. He also was a student assistant at his alma mater Elon where he graduated in 2013 with a degree in business management and earned an associate degree from Brunswick in 2011, where he pitched for two seasons.

Robinson is married to Taelar, a former Campbell lacrosse player). The couple has two sons, Rhett, age 3, and Ryder age 1. They are expecting their third son later this year.
