    Jun 13, 2023 | Lynchburg Va | Softball

    Official Release
The Liberty softball team is ranked No. 25 in the D1Softball national poll following the conclusion of the 2023 season.

Additionally, the Lady Flames received 21 votes in the year-end USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll and garnered one voted in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll.

This is the second time in program history that Liberty has appeared in the Top 25 in an end-of-season national poll. The Lady Flames were ranked No. 25 by D1Softball.com, NFCA and USA Softball in the final poll of 2021.

The 2023 USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll is voted on by 32 NCAA Division I head coaches, one representing each conference.

The ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll is voted on by coaching representatives of 10 Division I Conferences in the 10 USA Softball Regions as well as members of the National and Local media who consistently cover Division I Softball across the country.

The Lady Flames posted a 40-22 record this season, including 19-5 in ASUN play. Liberty earned a win over WCWS qualifier Alabama, along with Top 25 victories over Central Arkansas, Clemson and UCLA. This was the second time in program history that Liberty defeated a team who went on to compete in the WCWS the same season, as the Lady Flames defeated No. 10 Baylor in 2007.

Liberty earned its first-ever at-large berth in program history, flying to California for the NCAA Los Angeles Regional. Liberty made the most of its time out west, eliminating No. 2 UCLA and Grand Canyon to make a Regional final for the third time in program history. The Lady Flames set program single-season records for wins over Top 25 teams (four) and games against Top 25 opponents (16) this season.

This season featured numerous firsts in program history:
    First NCAA At-Large berth
First Win Over Top 5 Team: Defeated No. 2 UCLA, May 20
First Win Over Pac-12 Team: Defeated No. 2 UCLA, May 20
First Win Over UCLA (May 20), Alabama (April 18), Clemson (April 26)
First National Player of the Week: Caroline Hudson, March 7
First Two-Time Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Karlie Keeney

Liberty continued its ascent as a program, posting 40 or more wins for the sixth straight full season. The Lady Flames are one of just six NCAA Division I softball teams to win 40 or more games in each season from 2017-19 and 2021-23. The others are Florida State, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee and UCLA.
