2023 Liberty Men’s Soccer Schedule

The Liberty Flames men’s soccer team has announced its schedule for the fall of 2023 as it begins a new era by joining the Ohio Valley Conference for the league’s inaugural season in the fall of 2023.

The Flames will open their home slate on Aug. 14 by hosting Virginia Tech in an exhibition game at Osborne Stadium. The contest is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Head Coach Kelly Findley’s team will kick off their 2023 regular season schedule with home games against nonconference opponents St. Peters on Aug. 25 and Belmont Abbey on Aug. 28. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Osborne Stadium.

The following weekend (Sept. 1-3), Liberty heads to central Maryland for its first road contests of 2023 at the Navy/UMBC Tournament. The Flames will visit UMBC in Baltimore on Sept. 1 and face Navy in Annapolis on Sept. 3.

The Flames will join Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lindenwood, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (SIUE), and Southern Indiana for this fall’s first OVC men’s soccer season. The eight-team OVC becomes the 24th Division I Conference to sponsor the sport of men’s soccer and the conference’s champion receives an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship.

The teams will compete in two four-team divisions in 2023, with current OVC multi-sport members Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, SIUE and Southern Indiana competing in one division and affiliate members Chicago State, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word and Liberty in the other division. Each program will play 10 regular season league games, facing each team within their division twice and playing members of the other division once. The Flames will host Chicago State at Osborne Stadium in their first-ever OVC match on September 28.

Liberty’s home schedule will feature nine regular season home games plus an exhibition game. The Flames will host St. Peter’s, Belmont Abbey, Longwood and USC Upstate in non-conference matches at Osborne Stadium to begin their home schedule. Liberty will complete its home slate with OVC games against Chicago State, Houston Christian, SIUE, Lindenwood and Incarnate Word.

In addition to the Navy/UMBC Tournament, the Flames will face Wake Forest and VMI in non-conference road matches, while Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Southern Indiana, Houston Christian and Incarnate Word in OVC road matches.

The first-ever OVC Men’s Soccer Championship will be held from Nov. 5-11 and be hosted by SIUE at Ralph Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Ill. The 2023 OVC Championship will open with the quarterfinals on Nov. 5 and the semifinals on Nov. 8. The finals will be played on Nov. 11.
