    Lady Flames 2023 Fall Schedule

The Liberty women’s soccer team has announced its schedule for the fall 2023 season.

The Lady Flames are set for their debut Conference USA campaign after playing in the ASUN Conference since 2018, a total of five seasons. The Lady Flames open the season with two exhibitions, on the road at Old Dominion on Aug. 9 and hosting Virginia Tech on Aug. 12, both matches are set for 6 p.m. The regular season opener is set for Aug. 17 at VCU at 7 p.m.

The 18-game regular season schedule includes eight home matches at Osborne Stadium and 10 road matches.

“We are excited to enter our first year of C-USA and look forward to the challenges that it represents,” said Liberty Women’s Soccer Head Coach Lang Wedemeyer. “I believe we have put together another competitive schedule for the 2023 season. The tough schedule will stretch us, but we are looking forward to getting started in August.”

The Lady Flames look forward to a challenge on Sept. 3 as the squad hosts the reigning Big 12 Champion West Virginia.

Liberty joins C-USA along with three other programs, Jacksonville State (ASUN), New Mexico State (WAC) and Sam Houston (WAC).

The Lady Flames’ home opener at Osborne Stadium will be on Aug. 20 versus Delaware.

Liberty will face eight C-USA opponents, five of which are returning members from last season.

Liberty’s inaugural C-USA game will be on Sept. 21, as the team travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to meet Middle Tennessee. The home C-USA debut comes the next week on Sept. 24 versus fellow newcomer Sam Houston.

With the move to C-USA, Liberty will face nine opponents for the first time in program history, including seven C-USA foes. The only conference opponent the Lady Flames have seen previously is Jacksonville State, who is also making a move from the ASUN.

The Lady Flames return all four players that were named to both the All-South Region team and an ASUN All-Conference team: goalkeeper Ainsley Leja (ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year), defender Bridie Herman and midfielders Rachel DeRuby and Saydie Holland.

The Lady Flames finished last season as the ASUN runner-up, falling in PKs 1-1 (4-3) to FGCU. Liberty completed the 2022 campaign with a 14-3-4 record and ended the season with a program-record 13-game unbeaten streak (10-0-3).

The C-USA championships are scheduled to take place from Nov. 1-5, hosted by Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Va.
