Harkabus Named ASUN Winner for Life

    Jan 5, 2023 | Lynchburg Va | Cross Country

Liberty men’s cross country student-athlete Kyle Harkabus has been named to the ASUN Conference’s 2022-23 Fall Winners for Life team. The team is composed of one student-athlete from each of the conference’s 14 institutions and honors those who display excellence on and off the playing surface.

The Winners for Life team honors a campus citizen that is respected as one who shares and/or demonstrates the ASUN Core Values: Education, Honesty, Student-Athlete Experience, Fairness, Health, Ambition, Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Leadership, Responsibility and Sportsmanship. To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must have competed in the current academic year in an ASUN sponsored sport and be in good academic standing at his/her university.

A native of Senoia, Ga., Harkabus earned second team All-ASUN honors for the second consecutive season, thanks to a 14th-place finish at the conference meet. He opened his season with back-to-back top-10 finishes, taking third place at the Liberty Challenge and ninth at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational. Harkabus later recorded personal-best times for the 8K (24:06.8 at the ASUN Championships) and 10K (31:10.4 at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships).

A sport management major with a 3.65 GPA, Harkabus became the first Liberty men’s cross country runner since Spring 2021 to be voted to the ASUN All-Academic Team. He was also involved in several community service opportunities such as the Virginia 10-Miler, a back-to-school event at a local elementary school and volunteered with track meets and stadium cleanup after football games.
